Gay Friendly Accommodation in Somerset

Somerset, much like the rest of the South West is, if you will, not 'gay scene' territory, and is a bit thin on the ground for gay mecca fun and larks? Bristol is really the gay capital in this part of the country with several gay bars, gay friendly guesthouses and gay club nights. Bath's gay scene is burgeoning and there are a couple of openly gay friendly bars and some welcoming attitude-free venues. Taunton and Weston-super-Mare are also more welcoming with a couple of gay bars each! There's a small selection of gay owned Bath hotels complimented by gay friendly guest houses and B&B. Bridgwater, Cheddar, and around Wells and Glastonbury also have gay owned and gay friendly bed and breakfast but no gay hotspots or scene as yet!

The closest to a developing gay network and scene is probably in bohemian and arts/cultural centre Penzance, with Gay Nights at the Penzance Arts Club, and also in Truro with the gay club drawer here being Eclipse. Check the Gay Times websites for listings of gay clubs, gay bars and gay guest houses and hotels around Somerset. Check out also www.purpleroofs.com for up-to-date listings of Somerset gay owned hotels and B&Bs, gay cafes, bars and campsites.

Check out too the Pride West Somerset website (www.pridewest.co.uk/somerset/) for listings on accommodation, bars and events which is the only online gay community website for Somerset so far!

Gay Friendly Hotel Accommodation Somerset

Gay friendly accommodation means a warm and friendly welcome to gay and lesbian guests, usually located close to gay bars, gay saunas and gay clubs. There's a smattering of gay owned and gay friendly holiday accommodation throughout Somerset including the rural areas where it may not be immediately obvious. Bristol being the arts centre for the region has the most gay friendly accommodation and social venues. Bath is second with quite a good choice of gay owned or gay friendly accommodation but only a few social venues listed as gay friendly. Some of the more fun towns in Somerset are also a bit more liberal like Weston-super-Mare - the Somerset coast's fun capital!

When booking accommodation, know what you want before booking, make it clear to the hotel, guesthouse or accommodation owner and this way you're more likely to end up with the perfect gay friendly accommodation venue for you! There's always a bit of luck involved if you're visiting an area for the first time.

Some gay friendly guesthouses may be exclusively gay, some gay friendly welcoming all. Check out 'Gay Times. Great Britain and Ireland', by John Szponarski for some useful tips or the Spartacus International Gay Guide. Also see 'www.gaytimestravel.co.uk' for superb tips and advice on gay travel (mostly going abroad though).
