North Somerset Museum

The North Somerset Museum is run by an active group of people who not only maintain a wide ranging museum relating to the area, but also host exhibitions from local residents' collections.

There is a series of galleries and displays housing everything from an ichthyosaur and archaeological material dating from the Ice Age, through the natural, social and industrial history of North Somerset. There are particular displays on seaside history between 1870 and 1940 and with old Punch and Judy puppets, costumes from the Regency period right through to the 1950s and pottery produced in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare.

This is a great day out for the kids with interactive displays where they can try on Victorian costumes and have a go on computers and interactive tours. There are mock-ups of old shops and Clara's cottage adjacent to the museum that was built in 1864 and shows how the family would have lived taking in guests to pay the bills.

Entry is free for children accompanied by a responsible adult. The Museum is open all year round Mon-Sat from 10am to 4.30pm. The Museums closed over the Christmas period and New Year's day.
